A Bad Movie Night Kit — Sharknado, Bingo, and a Golden Turkey Trophy

A small box holding a stack of famously bad films, bingo cards you print from the squares below, popcorn and candy, and a tiny gold-painted turkey for the night's best heckler. For a friend, a couple, or a group worth gathering. An afternoon to assemble, plus drying time for the paint.
Materials
- A shallow lidded box, about shoebox size, that holds three DVD cases flat beside the snacks — something that looks more like a film-club delivery than a gift basket
- Three films — Sharknado, The Room and Troll 2 — on DVD or on a streaming service they have (step 1 says how to check)
- A printed Bad Movie Bingo card per guest (plain paper and a printer; the 24 squares are in step 2), and a pencil each
- A small snack kit — gourmet popcorn, one sweet (Twizzlers), one salty (pretzels)
- The Golden Turkey for best heckle — a small plastic turkey, gold spray paint, a strip of card and craft glue
- A folded rule card with the night's three rules and how the trophy is won
The film is bait. The room is the gift.
Instructions
- 01
Pick the films. Three is the sweet spot — two known-bad, one wildcard. Sharknado and The Room are reliable openers; Troll 2 is the wildcard. Before you box them, check each one is on DVD or on a service they have where they live (a site like JustWatch shows where a film streams by country); if one isn't, swap in Birdemic or Plan 9 from Outer Space.
- 02
Print the bingo cards. One per guest. Type a 5×5 grid and fill it with these 24 squares: Visible boom mic, plot hole, one-liner that didn't land, gratuitous explosion, bad green screen, obvious stunt double, line said twice, slow-motion run, someone says the title, fake blood, the same shot used twice, phone call that explains the plot, wig or hair changes mid-scene, random dance scene, day turns to night in one cut, sudden romance, villain explains the plan, ominous music for nothing, puppet that's meant to be real, glass full then empty, sunglasses indoors, a laugh at a joke that isn't funny, wooden line reading, a door nobody needed to slam. Free square in the middle. Shuffle the order on each card before printing, so no two cards win at the same moment.
- 03
Box the snacks. Popcorn, one sweet, one salty. Skip the catering ambition — bad movie night is paper plates and direct eating from the bag.
- 04
Mount the trophy. A plastic turkey from the craft aisle, spray-painted gold outdoors and left to dry as the can says. Write Best Heckle on a small strip of card and glue it to the base.
- 05
Write the rule card. Three rules, the prize, the schedule. Tuck it on top of the films so it's the first thing the recipient sees.
What to write inside
Three films, three rules. Watch them in any order. Heckle freely. Whoever lands the funniest line by the end credits walks away with the Golden Turkey.

Pro Tips
- Resist the good-bad trap. Mamma Mia and Con Air are good-bad — fun but not the point. The films here should be genuinely bad: directorial misfires, baffling plots, dialogue that snaps the suspension of disbelief in the first ten minutes. The heckle is the gift.
- A shared phone playlist of cued sound effects — a rimshot, a sad trombone, the Inception horn — turns the heckle into a band. One person runs the soundboard each film.
- For long-distance: mail the bingo cards and trophy instead of the snacks, pick a film you can both stream, and press play together on a three-count over a video call. The bad cinema travels well.
