Voices on Showing Up for a Teen Pushing Back

Voices for the parent in the middle of it — some broad, some Catholic, whichever you reach for.
How this collection works
Who watches this
You — the person showing up. These videos aren't for the recipient.
When
Before a conversation, when you're not sure what to say. Watch alone, take a beat.
What each beat is for
Caption orients you before watching. Takeaway is the line to hold onto. Reflection questions turn watching into a small decision.

Dr. Meg Meeker Raising A Strong Daughter : Strong Fathers Strong Daughters

The Father Effect with John Finch

A pediatrician on the fear that holds most parents back — and what teenagers actually notice.

Takeaway

Never parent out of fear. Kids do not catalog your job or your house — they catalog whether you laugh, whether you yell, whether you want to be in the room with them.

Reflection
01

Name one moment in the last week your teen would file under 'they were actually here, in the room, with me.' If you can't name one, draft the next one — what does it look like, when this week, where?

02

List three fears that are actually driving your parenting right now (their future, their safety, their friends, the choices you can't see). Pick the one running loudest — and write the sentence you'd say to your teen if you could set that fear aside for a week.

03

When did your teen last hear you laugh — not at them, just in the same room as them? If it's been more than a few days, schedule the activity (the dinner, the drive, the walk, the show) where it could happen this week.
